Milarépa (eleventh century) was an ascetic reincarnation of the Tibetan Buddha. When he left the solitude of his hermitage, he met villagers and recounted the stages of his spiritual pathway to them. His Hundred Thousand Songs have been collected and reworked over the centuries by his disciples, who have immortalized them. "I am Milarépa, the best of yogis. I am he who hunts the face of appearances, he who welcomes all desires. I am a yogi without opinions, he who is never impressed, whatever happens. I am the renouncer without life, the beggar without possessions, the naked vagabond. I am he who has conquered all the practices, I reside here but I do not live here.
