The Zohar is among the major works of the Kabbalah. It is an esoteric and mystic exegesis of the Torah or Pentateuch. Attributed to Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, it is generally considered to have been written by Moses de Léon between 1270 and 1280. The Zohar consists of two large sections: one concerns the Pentateuch (volumes 1 to 4), the other the Book of Ruth, the Lamentations and the Song of Songs.
