Description

Every person carries childhood injuries within himself. Regardless of their origins, these past traumas give rise to knots of anger, fear or sadness at our very core; feelings which can continue to hinder us long after the events: a lack of self-confidence, loss of perspective in the face of everyday tribulations, a struggle with anguish whose origins we don't recognize... Every one of these wounds is fighting to come to the surface and be recognised. A gesture, a word, or an image can suddenly awaken them, causing them to express themselves as negative emotions. We therefore do all we can to prevent them from emerging, filling up our lives so as not to leave any gap where they can insinuate themselves. We refuse to face them. Thich Nhat Hanh invites us to recognize our hurts and deeply buried emotions and to accept them. He teaches us to develop mindfulness, through respiratory exercises, concentration and meditation. The rôle of mindfulness is not to combat that which hurts us, but to welcome and heal it. Let us develop the habit of inviting in our childhood hurts and tenderly caring for them: their intensity will be reduced and can be transformed into a force of reconciliation and compassion.
