The mandala is a key element of Buddhism which makes it possible to describe the unity of the world, where man and nature exist in native harmony. It invites us to participate in an experience of becoming open and never rejecting the obstacles we encounter and the faults within us. A way of finding one's centre. The mandala has many equivalents, among the American-Indians or among Mediaeval artists; in the archaic figure of the labyrinth and in the figure of the rose in Gothic cathedrals. The author of this book also aims to demonstrate that the figure of the mandala still speaks to us today. The book undertakes to illuminate the modern resonances of this worldwide figure in philosophy, psychology and art, travelling in unique fashion from traditional mandalas to modern painting in order to capture the sacred dimension of existence.
