Practical guide to distinguishing the true and the false. We have more need for vitamins today than ever before, thanks particularly to stress and pollution, but also as a result of poor dietary habits and food depleted by intensive cultivation techniques. Dietary supplements are therefore beneficial. However, if recent studies are to be believed, some vitamin supplements may be detrimental to health. What is not explained is that this danger is associated with synthetic vitamins, whose effects are in no way comparable to those of naturally occurring vitamins and may even achieve directly opposite results. It is therefore important to differentiate between natural and synthetic vitamins. This work is based on international research and describes clearly vitamin requirements, the signs of deficiency, dietary sources and the known risks of the synthetic form. It also presents tables and summaries of indicators which can be used as a daily guide. Interesting recent discoveries are also included, as well as new ingredients such as betaine, the co-enzyme Q10 and Pc-DHA.
