Lanza del Vasto (1901-1981) was the apostle of non-violence in Europe having spent several months in the presence of Gandhi, and was the founder of the “Arche” communities. From October 1946 to June 1948, he organised around sixty gatherings for a circle of friends and disciples during which he commented on the Gospel. This book brings together the entirety of these discussions on the life and message of Christ. Lanza del Vasto does not claim to explain the Holy Scripture, he himself confesses to having struggled to understand them, and of always being awe-struck on reading them. However, he is able to convey his wonder at the multiple meanings of these texts which are a source of constant delight. Although improvised, his comments are always clear and offer us a reading of the Gospel which is both free and respectful, inspired by the Fathers of the church. His teachings address both the heart and mind, these are genuine lessons of wisdom for the modern man, no matter what his beliefs. Christ, Lanza del Vasto tells us, is none other than ourselves, he was born in our hearts.
