This book presents three historic documents regarding the organisation of the life of the Knights Templar.
Firstly, the rule written by Bernard de Clairvaux using those of Saint Benedict, setting out the way monastic life was governed right down to the finest details: it covers not only the manner of carrying out different offices, but also eating, dressing and reciting psalms. It describes the different functions carried out within the community and answers those questions that each brother may ask: how to receive guests, how to behave with excommunicated brothers or those who do not follow the rules, etc
The second text presented is praise for the new knighthood, written by Bernard de Clairvaux and addressed to Hugues de Payens, the first Grand Master of the Order of the Temple. It is a treatise of monastic life.
The third document relates to the primitive rule, inspired by the rule of Saint Benedict, that the Council of Troyes granted to the Knights Templar in 1129. With this text, the Church recognises the Order of the Knights Templar. It contains the same concerns for ruling every aspect of the brothers’ lives, on both material and spiritual levels.
