22 December 1894: eleven American scientists meet in Potal, a small Indian village. Sceptics by nature, they accept no a priori truth, but remain intrigued by certain religious phenomena. They decide to see the wonders achieved by eastern Masters for themselves. As in India, Tibet and Nepal there live men with staggering abilities who are able to communicate over great distances, levitate and cure the infirm. The scholars discover, with growing fascination, yet unknown physical and psychic laws: through an asceticism following well established rules, the mind grows able to manipulate matter and even to depart its physical body. On contact with this invisible hierarchy of Masters of wisdom, they begin a spiritual journey leading them to the discovery of their innermost, timeless and eternal Self. Archaeologist by training, Baird T. Spalding made a name for himself through his research in the Gobi desert. This work is the story of his initiatory adventure in India Tibet and Nepal.
