Published anonymously, “Ariadne’s thread” has been attributed to Hemrich von Batsdorf as well as Dudo (de Clave), the presumed author of the Hermetic Dictionary. In “The Birthplaces of Philosophy” and “The Mystery of Cathedrals”, Fulcanelli views it as a classic in the field of alchemy, ranking it alongside the writings of Basile Valentin, Cosmopolite, Philalèthe... This treatise was introduced thanks to a study by Sylvain Matton on the symbol and myth of the labyrinth in alchemical literature.
